We love to design custom metal products
Mayer & Toye Limited is located in central Wellington, New Zealand. In 2020 Mayer & Toye Limited was purchased by Tribe Design Ltd, bringing together over 130 years of history in the craft. Frequently asked questions
Can you design my product?
We have expert product designers in-house that are ready to assist you wherever possible. If you supply an overview of what you are wanting to achieve or the problem needing to be solved, we are more than able to come back with creative recommendations and ideas.
Why do you charge tooling and set up costs?
We charge tooling because it takes a substantial amount of time to hand-craft your master pattern so the order can be manufactured to the highest specification. Don’t be fooled by other companies without tooling costs, as often they use print or laser-based processes to brand an existing product. Everything we supply is formed in metal and painted by hand – to your specification.
What is the minimum run quantity?
Minimums do vary depending on the project, the product and the budget – so please ask. But as a general rule, a standard item has a 50-unit production minimum. Regardless of your needs, however, please do talk to us.
What types of products can you make?
Our product capability is forever growing as we discover new ideas. Our product page shows some of the specific product lines we have supplied our clients over the last few months. If what you want is not here, don’t worry. Simply complete our get-a-quote form and tell us what you want.

What type of artwork files should I send?
We prefer an Illustrator file. Editable PDF files are fine too. But if you send image files, such as tiff and jpeg, that will require re-drawing, so we will have to charge for the artwork time in addition to tooling and set-up costs. We have to do this is because we need a very specific file for tooling the master pattern. You can upload your artwork file and send it to us by completing our get a quote form here
Do I have to pay the tooling and set up costs for every order?
Nope, you only have to pay the tooling and set-up costs for each item the first time you order it. After that, a reorder of the same item is just $25.
How long does an order take?
We can normally turn a new job around in 3-4 weeks from sign-off. But if you’ve left things a little late, please do call us on +64 4 384 9884 and we’ll talk straight away with operations and try our best to meet your time-critical deadline.
How much does it cost?
You’ll be surprised how affordable it is to form your idea in metal. Because every job is personalised, we will supply a quote that is right for your job. Simply complete our get a quote form and upload any visuals you may have so we can advise an accurate price for your project.
